This presentation by Robin Appleberry, Senior Advisor and Chief, Legal, Economic, and Policy Analysis Branch, provides the legislative history of tobacco control in the United States from 1994 through the signing of the Tobacco Control Act in 2009. Approximately 20 minutes.

The purpose of the Tobacco Control Curriculum is to provide an introduction to tobacco and tobacco control to all new and current CTP staff. The curriculum consists of two short online courses, one webinar and selected documents for reading. The curriculum takes about 3-4 hours to complete and covers the following topics:
- Evolution of tobacco control (online course)
- Legislative history of tobacco control (online course)
- Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (aka. Tobacco Control Act or TCA)
- CTP/FDA basics (webinar)
- CTP strategic priorities
- Tobacco industry
- Tobacco products
- Other federal agencies working on tobacco
To most effectively complete this curriculum, please access the materials in the order in which they are presented here There are additional resources listed after the courses and readings if staff are seeking more information. This curriculum is not meant to replace any Office specific training, but rather to provide a general overview of tobacco and tobacco control for all staff.
